Detailed Itinerary

You’ll meet your guide at the Mt. Esja Hiking Center, just 25 minutes from Reykjavík. After a warm welcome, your guide will check you in, answer any questions, and make sure everyone is ready for the adventure.

Your guide will equip you with all necessary Via Ferrata gear, including helmet, harness, and lanyards.

You’ll receive a clear and friendly introduction to:

  • How the Via Ferrata system works

  • How to safely move on the cables and ladders

  • Basic climbing techniques

  • What to expect on the route

This short introduction ensures that even complete beginners feel confident before starting.

You’ll begin with a gentle hike along the lower slopes of Mt. Esja.
During this walk, you’ll enjoy:

  • Fresh mountain air

  • Beautiful views toward the ocean

  • First glimpses of the spectacular Fálkaklettur cliff

This warm-up prepares your body for the climb ahead.

The adventure begins as you clip into the steel safety cable and start making your way up “Falcon Rock.”

How to get there

Reaching Fálkaklettur is simple and convenient. All tours start from Mt. Esja Hiking Center (Esjustofa), located just a short 20–25 minute drive from Reykjavík city center.

Driving instructions

  • Drive east out of Reykjavík on Route 1 (the Ring Road) toward Mosfellsbær.
  • Continue past the town until you see signs for “Esja/Esjustofa”.
  • Turn right into the parking area at Mt Esja.
  • Free parking is available on site.
