Itinerary
You’ll meet your guide at the Mt. Esja Hiking Center (Esjustofa), just 25 minutes from Reykjavík. After a warm welcome and check-in, the adventure unfolds in six stages:
Your guide will equip you with all necessary Via Ferrata, such as gear, helmet, harness, lanyards and gloves, and give a clear, friendly introduction to how the system works, how to move safely on the cable, basic climbing techniques and what to expect on the route. Even complete beginners feel confident before starting.
A gentle hike along the lower slopes of Mt. Esja. Fresh mountain air, views toward the ocean, and a perfect warm-up before the climb ahead.
Clip into the steel safety cable and learn the basics of via ferrata on the beginner-friendly route: protected climbing sections with secure steel rungs and fun scrambles suitable for the whole family with your guide supporting you every step of the way, and views over Reykjavík and Faxaflói Bay that get better with every step.
The unforgettable highlight of the tour, cross the Reykjavík Panorama Bridge and soak in the spectacular views across the city and the bay. Perfect for photos, a snack and celebrating your accomplishment.
Descend via a scenic hiking trail back toward the base while your guide shares local stories and insights about the mountain and surrounding area.
The tour ends where it began — return your gear and enjoy some final photos and conversations.
